‘Tis the season for reflection, as we approach the end of 2019 and indeed, the end of another decade. Our team have been looking back at some of the most memorable events from 2019, with the 16th annual Sheffield Cue Ball which took place in April, proving a real stand-out event.
The Cue Ball is Sheffield’s official launch of the World Snooker Championship and sees almost 300 fans and partners gather for an evening of food, live entertainment and fundraising. Taking place at Mercure St Paul’s Sheffield on 18th April, our team provided full pre-planning technical support for organisers, assisting with room layouts and health and safety management amongst other elements
For the event itself, we supplied event projection and vision systems as well as lighting systems to frame the stage and bring a great ambience to the venue. We also created bespoke staging for the band, Highway Child, and a PA system to capture and project speeches including one from the Chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, Jason Fergsuson and Leader of Sheffield City Council, Julia Dore.
Organising a dining event comes with lots more logistical consideration and information management as you gather pre-orders and seating plans. Timing schedules are also extra important when you have a hungry audience on your hands! Interjecting speeches between courses is a great way to keep people’s attention whilst giving the floor team chance to clear and prepare for the next course. Alternatively post-dinner speeches can also be a hit as people are keen to sit back, relax and enjoy the speeches once their appetites have been satisfied!
Thanks to a lively auction and generous donations, the event also raised an incredible £25,000 for their two chosen charities: Baby Basics UK and Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind.
Organisers have just announced next year’s date for 17th April 2020, keep an eye on their Twitter feed for more updates!
